The Senior Pharmacy Program assists seniors ages 60 and older in Craven, Jones, Pamlico, Onslow and Carteret counties, with costs for prescription medications. Those on Medicare are eligible; those on Medicaid, VA or having third-party coverage are not. An outreach of Catholic Charities, the program helps pay for prescriptions treating chronic diseases, such as cancer, high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, glaucoma, acid reflux, arthritis and clinical depression. Post-hospitalization medications may be covered on a limited basis. Sites for the monthly distribution of vouchers, to be used toward the prescription costs, are generally at area senior centers.
